Northern Territory General Practice Education (NTGPE) is the Northern Territory’s only Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) regional training organisation, delivering general practice education and training across the NT. Click here to find out more.
In 2017, the Federal Minister for Health announced the AGPT Program would transition to the two general practice colleges. Management of the AGPT program by ACRRM and RACGP will commence from 1 February 2023. As part of this transition, NTGPE will be responsible for confirming registrar placements for both the 2023.1 and 2023.2 training terms.
As part of the AGPT program, the placemeNT website showcases the variety of placement opportunities that the Northern Territory has to offer GP registrars. The NT has a broad scope of training experiences like no other, from rural and remote health delivery, Indigenous health, tropical health, fly-in-fly-out or drive-in-drive-out positions, residential locations, and mainstream medicine.
PlacemeNT provides an overview of placement opportunities, including information about their location, community profiles, accredited supervisors, MMM regions, testimonial statements from GP registrars and GP supervisors, and affiliation with Royal Australian College of General Practice (RACGP) and/or Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) training.
For GP registrars currently training in the AGPT program within the Northern Territory, placemeNT also serves as an open market platform to secure placements at NT-accredited training posts. During the NTGPE placement period, GP registrars can use the platform to review potential placements, apply for training positions, and manage and track applications. The platform also provides access for accredited training posts to review and shortlist applicants and make offers of employment.
You will also find access to NTGPE guides, policies, tips and FAQs. Find out more about how to apply to train in the Northern Territory.
Note: Key dates and the 2023 placement process are subject to change based on college-led transition updates.
